5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide

Soaring with God:  Stuck to Surrendered

Day 1: Remember His Faithfulness
Reading: Psalm 77:11-20 — A passage in which the writer chooses to recall the mighty works of God rather than be consumed by present fear, anchoring hope in what God has already done.
Devotional: It is easy to forget what God has done when the giants in front of you are louder than the memories behind you. The ten spies who returned from Canaan had witnessed plagues, Passover, and a parted sea — yet still they doubted. Forgetting God's faithfulness is not merely forgetfulness; it is a failure of trust. Today, pause and trace the hand of God over your own story. Where did He provide when you had nothing? Where did He sustain you when you were breaking? Write those moments down. Let memory become an anchor. A God who has been faithful in your past has not changed heading into your future. He does not grow tired of keeping His promises.

Reflection: What specific moment of God's faithfulness have you allowed yourself to forget? How would remembering it change how you face today?

Practical Application: Create a written list of three to five times God came through for you. Place it somewhere visible this week and read it each morning before you begin your day.

Day 2: The Danger of Comfortable Settling
Reading: Hebrews 11:8-16 — A description of men and women of faith who left comfort behind, journeying toward something they could not yet see, because they trusted the One who called them.

Devotional: The Israelites loved the grapes from Canaan. They admired the fruit. They simply did not want to fight for it. This is the quiet danger of comfortable Christianity — we appreciate what God offers but resist what God requires. Every great act recorded in Scripture involved movement. Abraham left. Moses stepped toward Pharaoh. David ran toward Goliath. None of them advanced the kingdom from a reclined position. God is not calling you to a life of spiritual ease; He is calling you to a life of spiritual adventure. The promised land was never intended to be admired from a distance. It was meant to be inhabited. You cannot stay where you are and go with God.

Reflection: In what area of your spiritual life have you been admiring the fruit without being willing to fight for it?

Practical Application: Identify one area where comfort has become an obstacle to obedience. Take one concrete step this week — however small — to move toward what God is asking of you.

Day 3: Courage in the Face of Fear
Reading: Joshua 1:1-9 — God's repeated command to be strong and courageous, paired with the assurance that He goes with His people wherever they are called to go.

Devotional: Fear is not a sign that you are faithless. It is a sign that you are human. Courage, as the sermon reminds us, is not the absence of fear — it is taking steps into the unknown with what you know. Joshua had every reason to be afraid. Moses was gone. The Jordan River was ahead. Giants were waiting. And yet God did not say, "Do not feel fear." He said, "Do not be overcome by it." The difference is everything. You may be standing at the edge of something terrifying right now — a decision, a calling, a relationship, a surrender. God is not asking you to feel nothing. He is asking you to push off into the deep anyway, trusting that He is already there.

Reflection: What fear has been keeping you grounded when God is calling you to launch? What do you already know about God that could give you the courage to move?

Practical Application: Write out the specific fear that most paralyzes you spiritually. Beneath it, write three truths about God that are greater than that fear. Pray over those truths daily this week.

Day 4: Believing in a Big God
Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21 — A prayer that believers would grasp the full dimensions of God's love and know that He is able to do far beyond what we can ask or imagine.

Devotional: The ten spies looked at the giants and saw themselves as grasshoppers. The problem was not their assessment of the giants — it was their assessment of God. When God shrinks in our imagination, everything else grows. The giants get taller. The walls get thicker. The finances get more impossible. But Joshua and Caleb looked through what the sermon calls the lens of glory, and through that lens, the giants became the small ones. God has not shrunk. He was big enough to speak the universe into existence. He was big enough to raise His Son from the dead. He is big enough for whatever frontier stands between you and the life He has called you to live. The question is not whether God is big enough. The question is whether your vision of Him is.

Reflection: Where have you allowed your circumstances to shrink your view of God? What would it look like to view that same situation through the lens of His glory?

Practical Application: Spend fifteen minutes today reading Exodus 14.  Let it recalibrate your expectations of what He can do in your own life.

Day 5: Following Fully and Catching the Wind
Reading: Acts 2:1-4, 41-47 — The account of the Holy Spirit arriving as a rushing wind, igniting the early church to bold, obedient, Spirit-empowered living that transformed the known world.

Devotional: A kite does not rise by sitting still. It rises when someone faces the wind, runs hard, and holds on. The early church did exactly that. They faced the wind of the Holy Spirit, ran headlong into a world that opposed them, and held on to the promises of God — and the church was born. God has not changed His wind. He is still moving. He is still calling ordinary men and women to step out of their seasons of safety and into the wild frontier of Spirit-led obedience. The great commandment has not changed. The great commission has not changed. Everything you need has already been given. The only remaining question is the one this sermon leaves ringing: will you follow Him fully? Not partially. Not cautiously. Fully.

Reflection: What would full obedience look like in your life right now? What are you still holding back from God that He is asking you to release?

Practical Application: In prayer today, surrender one specific area of your life that you have been managing on your own rather than trusting to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to be the wind beneath whatever step of faith He is calling you to take next.
