Charles Covin

Minister of Music

Charles Covin joined the staff of Brenham’s First Baptist Church in August of 2014. Raised in the home of a music minister, he received and surrendered to God’s calling of vocational ministry in high school. Charles met his wife and ministry partner, Bonnie, at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX, where he received a degree in Church Music. Previously, he served full-time for the wonderful people of First Baptist Church, Lorena, TX, and most recently, the First Baptist Church of Edna, TX. The Covins have six wonderful children: Wesley, Garrison, Sabrina, Paisley, Benjamin & Vera Grace. They’re passionate about leading God’s people in expressing their adoration for HIM, and are grateful to be instruments in the hands of a gracious and loving Savior!

Hobbies:  I’m a family man, so usually, I just enjoy hanging out at home with my brood.  I also enjoy great friends, good worship music, the occasional round of golf, coaching flag football for the FBCS Lions, and being an unofficial personnel evaluator / game plan coordinator for my beloved Dallas Cowboys (still waiting on Jerry Jones’ call).

Favorite Food: My favorite food is enchiladas!

Pet Peeves:
1.  I hate it when people are coaching a team with you, then leave the country in the middle of an undefeated season to go "evangelize".  #vacationsarefortheoffseason  #chad
2.  I can’t stand it when people take advantage of sweet little old widow ladies in order to try and gain an edge in a friendly cake bake competition. #chad

Super-hero Power Choice:  If I were a super-hero, I would have the power to blast all television commercials to smithereens.

Favorite Character in the Bible:  I have always liked Gideon.  God called Him to a task that he felt unworthy of and ill-equipped to handle, but by trusting in God and walking by faith, he experienced things he could’ve have never even dreamed were possible!  I can totally relate to how he must have felt in his calling and love the fact that anything I accomplish can only be attributed to God’s power and faithfulness.

Nancy Jahns

FBC School Administrator

Office: 979-836-6411

I’m Nancy Jahns. My husband, Ryan, and I have been in Brenham since 1988. We joined FBC in 1989. We have four children; we are grateful to have had FBC partner with us as we raised Jill, Ty, Meg, and Todd.. Macy joined our family when she and Ty married.

I grew up in central south Texas in the small farming community of Geronimo. I attended Texas A&M University where I obtained a B.S. in curriculum and instruction.I taught many years in Brenham ISD where I gained experience and training in general classroom instruction, gifted and talented education, special education, and Reading Recovery. After 15 years, I came to First Baptist Church School; our family was struggling due to well-being of one of our children during this time. FBCS was key in the healing of our child. It ministered to me, too. I’m so grateful FBCS was an option. While here, I taught third grade for one year and sixth grade for seven years. In 2011, I received the Barbara Bush Educator of the Year. I went back into the public school sector in 2012 and taught first grade until the Lord called me to come back to FBCS as the administrator in 2015.

My goal in education, whether it be in a public or Christian setting, is to help make the people I serve better. Not because of anything I can do, but because of what HE can do! I consider it a privilege to be able to share the gospel and pray with children, their families, and staff.
